Doctor Who - The Chart of Fear by tommy-tommerson Doctor Who - The Chart of Fear by tommy-tommerson
At the time of writing, this chart covers every single story and episode of Doctor Who to date. I've tried to make it as comprehensible as possible whilst not being unreadably complex, and I hope it can help people out as a checklist for what DVDs they're missing, or as a guide to what happened before Eccleston turned up.
Episodes marked in black indicated that those episodes are missing (see the sidebar), for the numbered companions and lettered enemies/UNIT characters check the key on the right-hand side. All DVD and VHS symbols indicate UK/region 2 releases.
This chart is a continual work-in-progress - I'm going to be updating it as new episodes are made, DVDs are released and whenever, god-willing, a missing story turns up from a broom cupboard in Hong Kong.

Note: the non-canon section is by no means comprehensive; it doesn't touch on the novels, stage plays or many of the audio releases, and neither does it mention spin-offs not considered to be "Doctor Who" such as Torchwood or the BBV/Reeltime Pictures videos - I may expand this later, or make a separate chart for them.

Trivia: when I started this, I was just trying to work out whether Jamie was the longest-standing companion. Och, ye dinnae reckon it'd be any other than the wee laddie?

EDIT: Whilst this should have been updated already to include Series 5, computer problems are making this harder to complete than it should. Hoping to be able to get it up-to-date soon, but don't hold your breath. In the meantime, anyone got any cool "silence will fall" theories?

Actually it is now 97 episodes of Doctor Who that are still missing, you could expand the chart through Series 7, 50th anniversary special and the 2013 Christmas special.

Aww... I saw the title and thought it was gonna be some big joke about Ace or Rory being awesome...

Still, this is fucking impressive.
cavatappimonster Featured By Owner Nov 3, 2011
This is AMAZING. But what about companion re-appearances?
keinve1 Featured By Owner Dec 4, 2011
They were marked; they exist as separate numbers (first Donna is 36, second is 39).

I didn't check the entire thing, but It stands to reason it would order like that.
cavatappimonster Featured By Owner Dec 5, 2011
But Jamie's appearance in The Two Doctor's isn't marked...
keinve1 Featured By Owner Dec 5, 2011
Most likely case; he forgot about him. Remember; there were a grand total of 45 companions to mark, 10 doctors (ten shown, anyway), plus a couple unofficial or uncredited ones (I think), enemies, unit, dates, ect. Slipping up for something seems rather likely.

Amazing. This is really well, as the Doctor put it in Time Crash, "Pretty sort of marvelous" :)
Btw, I feel bad for Patrick Troughton, looks like it's mostly his stuff lost.

The idea that the stories are missing for good is baffling to me. Surely *somewhere* in the world, is a copy? And like a computer- even if you delete a file, it's not really deleted, it's just overwritten and can techniclaly be retrieved. The episodes have to be out there somewhere.

Wow - i wish i'd come across this two days ago... would have saved me sifting though different wikipedia, and pages trying to work out what i'd seen/what was actually available/what to watch next. Gonna print this off or at least save this for future reference so i know where i've got to.... kind of tricky to keep track of when i've just been watching random episodes of classic who out of order ;)

Thank you for making this available for us :D

No prob. I wanted one of these charts too, but when I couldn't find one I figured I'd just have to make one instead...

And lo, there was the Chart of Fear.

OMG. I'm blind. Joking, v. useful, helped me with the companions. I'm a noob when it comes to DW, only watched the new series. But am going to start on the old ones soon. Then my parents will see what a REAl doctor who addict is like =D
tommy-tommerson Featured By Owner Jun 27, 2010
Good luck! The style of Old Who is pretty different to New Who, but it's always fun. Plus they didn't really do story arcs like in the new series, so you can watch them in pretty much any order - it's a good idea to read up on which stories are the most popular, that way you can cherry-pick the best and leave out the worst...
Motorquest Featured By Owner Jun 28, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Ta for the advice, will take a while to get through the most of them though I imagine. Bet it took you a long time to make that chart!

Love this! it is quite understandable yet comprehensive!

one question however. Did you count Donna twice as companion 36 and 39?
tommy-tommerson Featured By Owner Mar 9, 2010
Yeah, once for her appearance in The Runaway Bride and second for her run in Series 4; I didn't include her in The End of Time since her part in that was very small (Sarah Jane gets counted twice, too). I planned the layout for quickly checking who was with the Doctor at any given moment rather than a list of details; for the sake of the chart being easy to read I counted it as two separate runs. (Had to make some sacrifices - there were lists of writers, directors and other characters and enemies, but they made it too large to read well. Plus I was lazy.)

Thank you for faving!

This is super useful! I noticed that I'd started coming back here and referring to this when I wanted to check whether something existed, so I thought clearly it had more than earned a fave. What a great project! Thanks for doing this!

Fantastic! As Eccleston would say. It warms my heart to see that this proves genuinely useful to people!

That must have been a huge organizing task.

I'll be printing this out for reference. :)

You deserve great admiration, and you surely do get some from me.I tried just making a list of companions in order and it gave me a headache. Bravo.
aileen Featured By Owner Oct 6, 2009
Thanks for compiling all of this! I shall avail of it as "a guide to what happened before Eccleston showed up"
tommy-tommerson Featured By Owner Oct 7, 2009
Haha! I hope it's useful - I was inspired by a friend who said he'd like it if the old series was released in one big DVD set, and didn't have any idea how *much* series there was. I thought a chart like this might make the scale of the show a bit easier to grasp!
aileen Featured By Owner Oct 7, 2009
Actually, this chart makes me realize that there were actually *fewer* episodes than I originally though, given how long a run DW has had. Also makes me want to tip my proverbial hat to Mr. Tennant for hanging around for so long.

Again, thanks for your efforts! This chart sums up a lot of information in an easy-to-access format.
Macgyver644200 Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2009  Hobbyist Writer
Hey, is it true that all of the scripts for the individual episodes are still with BBC unharmed?
tommy-tommerson Featured By Owner Jun 21, 2009
Shooting scripts? I imagine so - it's not hard to copy a script and there'd be plenty available for each member of cast, so they must be around. In any case, there are audio-only soundtracks for all episodes since lost, so no story has been entirely destroyed.
sambrea Featured By Owner Jun 8, 2009  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
...WOW. How long did that take you? It's a lot of work to catalog all of that!
tommy-tommerson Featured By Owner Jun 8, 2009
Took me about a month or so, though that time was most spent designing, drawing, typing and generally piecing the thing together (exhausting!). The details came from my own Who collection, with sites like Wikipedia filling in the gaps.
